SpielerPlus: New menu and new ad formats in Germany's most-used team sports app

Since February, Germany's most-used team sports app, SpielerPlus, has featured a new menu structure. The previous hamburger menu has been replaced by a fresh, modern tab bar. This not only provides an optimized user experience but also opens up new opportunities for advertisers.

SpielerPlus: New menu and new ad formats in Germany's most-used team sports app

New standard formats for content

The new menu structure paves the way for additional IAB standard formats. While interstitials and sticky ads were already available in the previous version of the SpielerPlus app, content ads and the “Medium Rectangle” have now been added as additional display ad formats. These are embedded within the content, allowing advertisers to build a closer connection with the SpielerPlus app community through their ad creatives. Thanks to first-party data, the targeting options for campaigns have also been improved: Frequency capping and targeting options by region, sport, age, gender, team type, coach, player, and much more are now available. Also new: the “Branded Takeover.” The combination of multiple ad formats on a single page ensures maximum advertising impact.

Fixed placements: Better performance and new opportunities

The “Benefits” offer platform, which is integrated into Germany’s most widely used team sports app, benefits the most from the new menu navigation. Five rotating “Benefits” offers are prominently displayed on the home screen. From there, the SpielerPlus community can either navigate to one of the offers or view a complete overview of the current offers on the platform’s overview page. Combined with the improved accessibility resulting from the placement of the “Benefits” section on the team page, this leads to a significant increase in visibility, page views, and performance for our clients.

In addition, there are two new fixed placements that guarantee maximum visibility for brands. The “dashboard tiles” are located on the “Events,” “Team,” “Communication,” and “Profile” overview pages and blend seamlessly into the design. Depending on the number of other tiles on the overview pages (which link to various SpielerPlus features), the new ad format takes on either a small/square or a large/rectangular shape. Brands can book ad spaces exclusively as part of a (semi-)annual partnership package. In addition to dashboard tiles, these packages also include traditional banner placements, social media stories, push notifications, and other attractive ad spaces.
