40,000 kilometers reached: SpielerPlus community runs around the world in 17 days
Running for a Good Cause: Under this motto, SPM Sportplatz Media, together with its in-house SpielerPlus app and its new partner, the nonprofit organization Trikot für die Welt, launched the Mach-Meter Challenge. It’s been a resounding success: since its launch on April 1, more than 280 teams have already joined. What’s more, after just 17 days, the strong community has already surpassed 40,000 kilometers—enough to circle the globe once.
More than 280 teams are already participating
The Mach-Meter Challenge kicked off on April 1. Under the motto “Run for a Good Cause,” sports teams from all over Germany were encouraged to participate via the SpielerPlus app. For every kilometer logged through the tracking feature in Germany’s largest team-organization app by May 31, SPM Sportplatz Media will donate one euro in media budget to the nonprofit organization to collectively advance the mission of “Trikot für die Welt.” For this campaign, the SpielerPlus team has set up a dedicated landing page where participating teams can not only find all the information they need but also track the current standings via a live ranking.
In total, more than 280 SpielerPlus teams from all over Germany are already running for a good cause. And on the 17th day of the challenge, they’ve already surpassed 40,000 kilometers—the circumference of the Earth. “Running around the world with ‘Jersey for the World’—and during a pandemic, no less—that’s incredible! We’re really thrilled about this incredible interim result,” beams “Trikot für die Welt” organizer Tim-Ole Schlüschen.
"Super happy about the project"
Just as spring is about to begin and teams are slowly getting back in shape for a return to team sports, this initiative hits the mark. “We’ve been thinking for months about how to organize a charity run. So we’re super happy about this project,” says Marei Knauthe of the Oldenburg Outlaws. The club is participating with three different teams and has already covered a total of over 800 kilometers.
Even though the challenge is already underway, the following still applies: “Any team can participate and join in,” says SPM Managing Director Marcel Hager, adding, “After all, we want to circle the globe a second time—and we’d love to do it a third time, too.”
